Part IX

"Experience is what you get when . . ."

Denice showed up at the Achilles coffee shop across from the R.E.B. building right on time, green blouse and all. In a parked car looking through binoculars, David Lee convinced himself that this was his contact and that the coast was clear.

"You Denice?", asks Lee.

"Yea, You Lee?, askes Denice.

"Yea"

"I've got work for you Lee. You interested?"

"What kind of work?"

"I'm gonna be entering into a business transaction with an old friend and I need someone to watch my back"

"Watch your back?"

"Yea, be near-by, ready to come to my assistance if the going gets tough"

"Oh, is that all? No problem. What's your schedule"

Denice explains to Lee about her meeting Monday morning in the R.E.B. cafeteria with Nougie and Naber. She explains that they are entering into a business transaction and she wants Lee to be a couple of tables near-by just in case.

"I charge $400 per day plus expenses", expains Lee.

"Here's two days worth. Be at the R.E.B. cafeteria at 6:30 a.m. on Monday. Take a seat at a table near mine, but not too close. Look around and watch out for me".

Lee fans the wad of twenty dollar bills. The breeze on his face and the smell of money exact a half-hidden smile. " Pleasure doing business with you Denice."

"By the way Lee, that's not my real name"

Denice and Lee leave the Achilles coffee shop and part company.

"I guess I don't really need to run ole Denice by Graham. This job seem harmless enough - actually legitimate work. I'm not used to this", Lee says to himself as he chuckles.

End of Part IX.
