//OT// I decided to go back through some posts over the last few months to satisfy my curiosity about what happened to Shane and to the "Pleasant Thread".
Shane and K carried on quite a civil dialogue for a while, although they were often on different sides of discussion points. Then Shane started to lose patience, seemingly with what he thought was disingenuousness (is that a word?). I think this post shows the real reason he left the thread, bigger than just disagreements with K.

Though Shane did get tired of the sniping on the thread, too:

Things didn't really degenerate to personal insults around here until the Symbios deal was announced. Things went downhill pretty quickly. Judge for yourself if you're interested:

K says that it was her short-term bearish views on LSI that prompted personal attacks from others, but that doesn't seem to be the case to me. It looks like the attacks on K were pretty much in response to pointed insults, except maybe in Jock's case, in which his attacks were prompted by his view that K was trying to deceive and misinform the thread.
The point I'm trying to make is not really who is guilty or innocent in this matter (although I do have some feelings about that) but that we have a pretty lengthy history on this thread of being able to carry on civil discussions with bears and LSI negativists without attacking them. It's only when personal insults get thrown out there that things start to spiral downward. Bears (including K) and bulls are both welcome here, and disagreements are to be expected, but let's abide by SI rules:
