The increase of revenue (for TLK) this half over last year, looks pretty good on the surface until you realize that those rupiahs buy 80% less. Those rupiahs buy less gold, less silver, less automobiles, less foreign goods, even in many, many cases less domestic goods. So really TLK took a pretty heavy revenue hit.

I am holding off on repurchasing at the current price, since I expect year end tax loss selling on TLK (around December) to further drive down the price. I have seen this many times, and since the financial statement for the next half will not come out until Feb 99, I see nothing to make the price go up except for a betterment of the Indonesian currency.

How likely is that? I don't know. This morning we saw both the Indonesian stock market go down and further weakening of the currency -- double bad news for the ADR (TLK). Does anyone have a feeling for the chances of Indonesia's currency strengthening before the end of the year. Please share your thoughts.
