Tom, RE: The Death of Outrage Hadn't heard that term before and it perfectly captures the moment. People just don't seem to care that character is destiny. Defenders keep pointing to the high approval ratings. What I think most fail to understand is that those polls are little more than a referendum on the economy. I'm willing to bet you could plot a regeression line between presidential job-approval ratings and, say, consumer confidence index from The Conference Board. My "evidence" (admittedly weak -- this is an untested theory) is that poll numbers continue to show erosion of trust, confidence, belief in Clinton. Yet the "job performance" numbers hover in high 60s. That divergence is nothing more than this: "I don't trust/like that guy, but I just got a raise and my 401K is kicking butt." The death of outrage is exactly "it." Well said.
