Del, I have no answers about the existence of beings on other worlds. I know people whose opinions on other matters I respect who certainly do believe that way, though. Having spent my adult life nestled in family life, nurturing a child and working hard and doing art, I am pretty grounded in the every day rhythms of life right here. My husband has studied this question extensively, and believes that space beings will be actually landing here sometime this spring! That will be interesting to see. What do you think? Is there a higher plane of existence? I certainly don't personally believe that when I die my soul will be going to heaven (or hell). I think these are constructs that men since the beginning of time have invented out of the desperate longing for more meaning than perhaps life holds. They are comforting beliefs, and offer something to look forward to after a short, painful hardscrabble life spent wishing for more.
But I do believe in the existence of the soul as something separate from the rest of my being, that leaves when my body dies, and hope that souls travel in packs floating through space, inhabiting different bodies at different times, and seeking each other out as kindred spirits on their journey, so that the souls of my friend and I can travel through eternity together, and someday in another lifetime maybe he will inhabit the body of my mother, or my child's soul might meet mine again somewhere on the journey. I think we recognize kindred souls and seek them out time and time again, and this is why we call these special people we rarely encounter, but never forget, soulmates.
At least I want it to be this way!!
Spiritual beliefs are very personal, and I don't want to turn this into another Ask God thread, where people sometimes heatedly debate issues that no one can really know the answers to. It's not very peaceful or harmonious over there, and I want to avoid that. Everyone is free to say what they want over here as long as they are reasonably polite and supportive of other opinions, though, and since you asked I answered.
My beliefs have nothing to do with the poem I wrote and the reference to other worlds. I try to write generally enough so that a poem can stand on its own and be enjoyed (or whatever!) by anyone who reads it. But it was written for one person, who will understand it totally. "Other worlds" in that context, though, simply meant worlds far away from the one I inhabit right now, but not on another planet.
