Addendum to previous comment:

What exactly do you mean by "economic rationale? If the result is to make money in stocks, then the end certainly justifies the means. Example: Look at the economic rationale for holding MU all the way down from 90. Or how about BAY going from 45 to 28. Hey, the numbers are good, the companies are well run, but yet the stocks went down, regardless of the "great new widgets" both companies make. Kind of makes you wonder,eh?
Where is the economic rational for for watching your investment get cut in half?
By the time investors find out just what is going on, 99% of the time it is to late. But the price and volume don't lie.
