Just to be clear, I agree wholeheartedly with your post. Fighting terrorism is an on-going battle which some critics believed was leveraged to divert attention.

While I agree with your statement that the "terrorist convention" was not intentionally timed by terrorists, any ability to influence future events would have had to be designed around that and many other planned events. For example, U.S. intelligence agents surely knew months in advance about the convention.

Regardless of whether recent terrorism was influenced by White House politics, the battle against terrorism has escalated - like it or not. Safety concerns during overseas trips has never been greater. So much for not letting terrorism influence your emotions.

By the way, it seems discussing these matters might be misconstrued as playing out some kind of short-term strategy. My guess, therefore, is it will rebound once everyone figures out this is likely not the case.
