Kal, in addition to Microsoft's operating systems, Intel chips run other OS's such as Data General's DG/UX unix. Data General, working with Intel, has developed an interface that links multiple Intel quad-Pentium-PRO motherboards into large-scale systems. Data General has announced plans to provide medium and large scale servers based on this technology and has licensed the interface to Unisys and other vendors. These systems can be configured with up to 32 Pentium-PRO's for applications such as data warehousing. (See dg.com

This should help Intel maintain margins since vendors selling systems for hundreds of K dollars need not pinch pennies on chips.
