Even if their claims are true, I don't think their actions will work. Companies that clearly WERE being shorted heavily have tried pretty much everything, without success. What they tried to do usually made matters worse. Take the case of OCCF about three years ago. Naive management, didn't know what the hell it was doing. The stock got pumped, went from 15 bucks to 130 in a matter of days.

Was it shorted? Of course it was, as it well should have been. Enormous short position. Instead of accepting the fact that this was the normal action of market forces, management got its panties in knot and shrilly demanded that shareholders call in their certs. Announced that they intended to move to the NYSE (never mind they didn't come close to meeting requirements), and said that they'd "chosen" Goldman Sachs as their investment banker. Geeezzz. Idiots.

They're still on the Nasdaq, naturally. Goldman was not interested. The other measures they took did nothing to help share price. If you can find any news source that goes back to the fall of '95, read their PRs. They're hilarious.

In the end, the stock was fairly valued. It was NEVER--based on any kind of fundamentals--worth anywhere NEAR $130.

Don't know what it's doing now. Haven't looked at it in ages.
