A friend told me years ago that the 10th or 12th (or something like that) largest Japanese-speaking city on the planet is Sao Paulo, Brasil. There were two competing Japanese daily newspapers at the time. Many are 3rd- and 4th-generation Brasilians by now, but retain close ties to Japan.
