Sean, I believe there are significant potential speed increases on larger disks as well, though I have to admit this is an impression
rather than anything I can back up with benchmarks.

One example, which I'd have to see disproved not to believe, is
head movement. There just HAS to be more average head movement
for small files in 32k clusters versus small files in
512 byte clusters, on the average, almost no matter how you figure
it. This will NOT show up in benchmarks, because they measure
other things (as they should). More head movement translates
to slower average access unless all you access are large files.
Browser caches aren't large files (usually); a case close to home
for us.
