Tango - ISP's = Best shot at moving DSL, initially. Cable has wilted.
Internet Service Providers are the Key to moving ADSL forward in the short-term.
As mentioned earlier, It is easier to keep a customer, than lure him back. Looking down the road, hopefully the telco's will be better prepared to ENTER VDSL, and maintain a tight grip on all elements of including the content of Broadcast Video, POTS, Internet Access, maintaining control of the Local Loops, instead of leasing them out to ISP's.
Sooner or later the telco's will wake-up and smell the Java, only to find that they have missed the first boat, unless they Engage Warp Speed Now, as Texas Instruments, Motorola, NEC, Alcatel, GTE, British Telecomm/MCI, Telstra, and others race towards 1997.
In the new world of World Wide Instantaneous Data Communications, World Wide consumer dollars can be lost, quite possibly forever, by those who move slow. This is not a grab for one "single region", as is the situation in the US with the RBOC's and local carrier's, having their S.Bell Pac Bell Segments, etc.
World Wide Regions!
If a small OEM company were to Walk Around The World Softly, and quietly speak with the Number ONE telcos, ISP's, SEMI Conductor Manufactures, and Communications leaders in the world, maybe they could join in Concert to have a lead in the Digital Communications Extravaganza.
Hence not owning a Big Stick, but going out and building one.
Laser Etched into the CopperGold head of this big stick is a font representing the letter A.
