In my opinion we are likely in a bear market almost everywhere. The small-mid cap decline in the US has been going on quite a while and the large caps since April - you can draw a straight trend line though the SP500 from April to now with the July peak as an abberation spurred I think by the joint US-Japan intervention to save the Yen. The 89 day average on the SP500 is falling more strongly and consistently than last Oct-Nov. the index is gradually converging to the 200 Day MA.

I still see nonsense on some US websites about an "Asian recovery" next year so this aspect hasn't quite hit home yet. I reckon the Yen will be at 200 by the end of next year. Also we're seeing a bit of bubble bursting in the US - even without Asia the analysts consensus for profit growth over the next 5 (which stock prices tend to be based on) was way too high for this point in the business cycle. It's gradually being ground down.
