The brains that are doing all the free programing for Linux are working hot and heavy to release a Windows emulator (the only thing holding the effort up is most of them feel that Windows is an inferior computing invironment.

But if, as I've heard and seen, a 486 with Linux runs circles around a Pentium with NT4.0, perhaps a Pentium with the emulator will run Office 97 at an acceptable rate. Only time will tell.

Many servers are already running Linux: linux.org and an Alpha version of Linux is either out now or shortly will be. As I've said before, success of Alpha is up to Compaq marketing. There is a ground swell of annoyance building against the WinTel near-monopoly.
