I have been lurking on this thread for over a year and a half.

I've been to hell and back with ASND and I've gotten out recently at a loss. My decision was based on the following considerations:

- Stratus may have a good software product but I cannot see where the superiority in their fault-tolerant computers lies. Packaging looks expensive, HP Risc architecture looks expensive and there may well be better ways to achieve what the stratus comp does.

- Mory has said that he wants to make 3-6 aquisitions in the coming year. Not a smart way to tip one's hand!

- According to some recent statements by top brass, ASND appears to want to compete with the likes of LU, rather than be acquired by them. How does that buy respect on Wall street.

- ASND/CSCC is ramping strongly with ATM but so is CSCO and so is LU. How can ASND be all that strong with core ATM products? Isn't a telco switch Co also strong with core ATM? What would distinguish telco core ATM hdwe from ATM hdwe used by an ISP?

- ASND put out their RAS line with lots of bugs and they are now putting out VoIP with apparent bugs on day one. Doesn't matter if someone was just being careless about software upgrades, it's just the impression one creates that is important!

- We all know what CSCO is doing now! Strong RA concentrators, strong in ATM and getting stronger.

- Cable modems are a very hot in the consumer/remote access area and ASND does not appear to be trying to capture anything in that area. I think that cable, in time will blow away growth prospects for copper tw pair technologies such as xDSL and 56k dial-up.

All of the above statements are my own personal opinion and I hold no short positions.

Not short this one, just tired of being long. Good luck to all!
