I think they each have their own style to some extent. As someone said a few days ago, most MMs these days are prone to trade flat, without taking a position. However, some continue to go short or long on a given stock, just as you or I would, in hopes of raking in more cash than simply trading the spread. I would think that the MM companies involved have a lot of say in how their traders behave and each would have limitations, but I think some would be more liberal while others more conservative. We need someone who has watched/studied level II for a long time to fill us in on the individual personalities of these MM firms. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone like that...

I does make sense, however, that the more MMs that are involved in a given stock the harder it would be for manipulation to go on to any extent because all the MMs would not agree to such tactics. I don't know how many were working QTNT at that time but it seems like the more there are actively making a market in a given stock (and not just showing up without any intention of trading) the more likely that the trading will be fair for the investors.

Again, I'm just guessing here...
