RE: Specialists But they are also required to provide an orderly market by buying and selling on their own account. Many specialists perished on Oct 19 87 by buying in a dropping market and they didn't do it because they wanted to. Don't they have to buy or sell to clear the market today? Aren't these excess orders market orders? Isn't an excess a temporary imbalance? Or are these guys collecting commissions simply for rigging the market. I think it is a scandal that only half of the Dow 30 opened on the open today, while everything in NASDAQ opened as always. I think it is high time to replace the specialists with computers.
