What competition? "Competition" isn't effective unless it reduces Amazon's share. The stock market is more rational than you believe, particularly during sobering moments like these.

Nobody cares about the BKS IPO. If they cared, Amazon would have lost value at the prospect of a comparative valuation to B&N Online. Barnes and Noble has no momentum online, and barnesandnoble.com is not open-ended like Amazon. $12 million in sales with the kind of effort they made should be quite worrisome for them.
