Shorting Dell must have
been an expensive trade for you unless you covered as soon as you saw their quarterly earnings
report

If I'd done that I'd have lost more money than I have. Generally I have asset allocation between Australia, US, and general international fund and adjust weights to reflect my take on currency movements. Australia is only 2% of world stock market. Then I am doing various hedging or adjusting the total beta of my portfolio to reflect where I think the market is going. I prefer value plays to the growth stocks. Combination of both is best (eg. Safeway). Up till this month it's worked very well. I suspect I'm taking a hit this month instead of next (I hope).

I was agreeing with you on the NAS recovery... Remember DELLs beta is 1.71 - in a general market crash/correction this works much better than when the market is rising slowly.
