If I am to buy a new PC, win98 will be the first choice for OS, because I
know that
1) Win98 will run most of the application programs in the market, and it
is most likely to be supported by all the third party program developers in the years to come.

2) It will make me easier to exchange data with other PC users, because I know
most of the PCs in the market are running with window.

This makes MSFT continue to have the natural monopoly of the OS market
in the years to come, and it benefit all the PC users with a unified standard.
So, who to blame for MSFT's natural monopoly ? THE CONSUMERS.

As to the Linux, it really does not matter who support i, be it IBM, HWP, or SUNW...etct . What matters the most is
if the consumers will support it .

If Linux will be a threat, it will threat those high end market with hardwares running on UNIX. Again the problem is who will like to switch with the unix is just running well ?
