MPEG-2 over the phone
Nortel has launched its DV-MPEG SD7000 broadcast quality codec for contribution applications, which is MPEG-2 compliant and will allow broadcasters to transport compressed video signals over standards based telecommunications networks without compromising the video quality.
It is designed for broadcast environments, specifically for contribution transmission, remote special events and news coverage applications. With a codec at a remote location and one at a central office or broadcast facility, the compressed video signal can be carried over a SONET/SDH or ATM backbone, delivering contribution quality back to the broadcast facility for further editing and final distribution. Features include four audio channel support, adaptive comb filtering, DVB compliance and selectable 4:2:0/4:2:2 operation.
