DELL to sell direct in China.

Sonki, here's a brief note from Austin American-Statesman, Saturday, August 22, Weekly Business Review, page 2. I think it fits nicely with the article you posted.

Two weeks after it started shipping computers from its new Chinese plant, Dell Computer Corp. announced it will launch its direct-sales method in nine Chinese cities.

Dell has only about 1 percent of China's small but fast-growing personal computer market, according to estimates. International Data Corp. projects sales in China will grow more than 30 percent this year to about 4 million machines, compared with 8 million in Japan and 36 million in the United States.
