My point is that it takes a lot of work to read proxies and perform fundamental analysis. If you can't beat the market, then an index fund is a much more efficient use of time. What's the point of spending 300 hours a year to achieve the returns that you could get with one hour (or less). If index funds didn't exist, then your point is valid. But with the ease of investing in index funds, I don't see your point. I believe Graham would have my view if index funds were so easily accessible in his time.
