Should be closer to the 200 million dollar mark. But again what is reported and what are real -- two different things.
Another note: Citing red ink, Texas Instruments Inc., Dallas, in June 1998, sold its memory business to Micron Technology Inc., Boise, Idaho. Declining DRAM prices, TI said, contributed to an operating loss of $222 million in its second quarter and an operating loss of $20 million in the same period in 1997. Average unit prices of TI's DRAM chips were down approximately 30 percent and 70 percent, respectively, from the first quarter of 1998 and the second quarter of 1997.
This can be added to MU losses from now on too. Of course they will be able to write not having to pay TI about 180 million for outstanding patents during the 1st quarter -- that will help the bottom line somewhat. I am sure they wish it could be done in 9 more days, but they will have to wait. |
