Fred, When you are between a hammer and an anvil you need to be a tough nut to crack. Intel has spent billions trying to crack AMD and has failed. techically I expect the new K6 to sell well all the rest of the year and AMD might sell close to a million of them. The older K6 is probably finished and will be/is phased out of production so that AMD will make only assorted flavor of K6-2 from now on.

But intel was determined not to see a repeat of the 386 and 486 scenario where the AMD parts proved to be better and lower poser than theirs and cheaper too. The Celeron flopped. Celeron II(?)(Mendocino) might just be blindingly fast, but will suffer from high associated costs.

It will be an interesting fall.
