Bill,

<Intel has spent billions trying to crack AMD and has failed>

Again, I guess this depends on your perspective and definition. AMD has been reduced to a well oiled money losing machine. Actually, it was more Jerry Sanders and AMD's doing than Intel's. AMD's strategy has been and continues to be inherently flawed. I have been hearing arguments regarding AMD's technical strengths for years as their losses have continued to accelerated. Like I always said, there is a huge difference between making a product and selling it for a profit.

A couple years ago when I forecasted the collapse of Cyrix I opined that AMD had a better chance of survival. Since that time, AMD and their balance sheet have deteriorated significantly. Sanders has led the company to the edge of financial ruin. IMO, AMD's chances of survival (as an independent company) have all but disappeared.

BTW, I have always maintained that viable competition is good for the industry, good for the consumer, and good for Intel. Unfortunately, Intel's competitors have remained fixated on pursuing paths of self-destruction.
