Flip side of y2k? Demand boom from WSJ online:

<Ironically, by the middle of next year, Y2K could be bringing a boom in demand that might push growth in gross domestic product to ridiculous levels. Just-in-time inventory management will be switching to just-in-case, as manufacturers stockpile parts as a hedge against year-'00 nondelivery, and as wholesalers and retailers build their own inventories for the same reason. And while consumers might well postpone purchases of big-ticket items such as homes and cars (although even here there could be some acceleration), by the second half they'll start prudently stocking up on goods, as their own form of insurance. At the same time, companies will be spending fortunes on Y2K-cleanup efforts.>
