re Anyone think there are enough democrats with the sense to simply go to clinton with the OIC's report in hand and TELL him to resign?

That's the way it would happen, according to Rush. Without the senior Dem's support in Congress, the President is not much more than simply taking up space in the WH: signing or vetoing bills, meeting foreign dignitaries, etc.

Both drudgereport.com and newrepublic.com are carrying the cigar masturbation story (so far), and everyone knows that Matt Drudge was the one that broke the original Lewinsky/Tripp tapes story, and at this point it seems that Matt's credibility has to be fairly highj. When the drudgereport broke the original tapes story, the major news media outlets felt they had to run the story or else be left out in the cold on a big story that others would carry.

If this cigar story hits the major news media, I think that public support may finally begin to crack -- unless our nation is even more screwed up than I thought. Just on sheer utter stupidity, I think Clinton should resign: how could he possibly think that Lewinsky would *never* tell? Not to mention the idea that Lewinsky had Clinton in a very compromising position ("the honey trap" is an old female espionage agent trick).

Clinton may well be getting a visit from the Capitol hill Dems late next week even who have a message for him: "President Clinton.....it's untenable. You've got to step down."

How delightfully ironic if Clinton gets run out of DC on a rail by "his own" senior Democrats on Capitol Hill.
