I've been reading along for a while. It's been a morbidly interesting. There are a lot of intelligent people acting (reacting?) like zealots. These people include the president and his supporting cast, K. Starr and company, politicos of all shapes attempting to get on the band wagon (and get media air time), and this motley crew of entrepreneurial types. The spin control teams have been on high alert and the media is full of what I would call complete trash.

There is no giant mother (for lack of a better term) to send ALL of these misbehaving children to their rooms to think about how poorly they have treated one another. Metaphors aside, who can say that any of the players here have been behaving like normal, rational adults?

IMHO there will be no winners in this fray, but once again we will all lose a little. Our dignity as Americans will suffer the most. Our businesses will suffer too. From what I can tell the rest of the world looks at our culture as a bunch of spoiled, self-centered children anyway. It's frightening to them to see the most powerful country in the world act this way in public. We're all so busy having opinions that feed our own special interests that we ultimately may lose all our freedoms. At very least its clear that we have so much time to waste that we can spend it on trivia like the sexual habits of the president (or anyone else).

Personally, my fear is that we will be taken over economically rather than by a bombing war. Not that some lunatic fringe or a beleaguered country (Russia?) wouldn't try that too. Most of all I think its very clear that both our political system and our approach to using media to display our countries issues are badly in need of repair. We need to encourage reason and a forthright approach to running our country, not media circus' and well-polished, spin-doctors and pundits cleverly directing or misdirecting public opinion. If I could cast a vote for throwing all these knuckleheads out on their ear (that includes Bill, Kenny, and most of the politicians in office now) I would do that. These presumably bright people are not spending their time making our country a better place to run a business or raise a family. None of them. Isn't that what we hired them for in the first place?

I'm surprised that there are so few reasonable voices in this sea of partisans. Ayn Rand has turned out to be the prophet of our times. Only 50 years too early.

I guess now I'm in the fray too, and a target for ridicule as well. I don't claim the moral high ground by any means. I'm suggesting that everyone involved stop and take a good look at what they are doing to themselves and their country. Here's to hoping that someone turns off the loony light soon and we can get back to the business of business.
