All: Anyone have any insight into the short article in recent WIRED re the race to build an amplifier to work at 1310nm wavelength? Apparently the new amps can only be used with the new fiber which is 1550nm; leaving a lot of obsolete fiber! Ciena and Molecular OptoElectronics are mentioned as developers of retrofitting amps... Could be a lucrative niche, it seems. curiously.. ST
