Thanks for the URL. I'm really beginning to be interested in that chip. Turns out it was originally Chuck Moore's design but got handed over to somebody else.

I'm not too sure about context switching in these tests. Why would you do any switching when you're only running a single program? Context switching comes into play when you have multiusers or multitasking of any sort going on, where memory switches, stack switches, and so forth become necessary. In such cases, chips with larger caches might take longer to purge and reload, whereas the Patriot just does a 32-bit fetch (4 Forth opcodes), no cache management involved.

I'm going to be very curious to see if one could intermix Java and Forth code to speed Java up even further. May be that this is what their JIT Java compiler is all about.
