This post is the result of some homework that was done because I heard there could be some bad news coming on the Ubeam. IR at UTEK has just told me the following and I will stick to the facts as I heard them.
I should also note that I do not have any expertise in this area and just learned what litho and mask making was only a year ago. Please note that UTEK said the following is conservative. Here goes.

1) The ubeam now is use at PLAB replaced an ETEC 4500. ETEC had control over the dismantling and removal of their machine and they dragged their feet so as to slow down the ubeam installation as much as possible.

2) Ubeam is 4x faster than the Etec 4500. UTEK doesn't seem to know exactly how it compares to Etec's latest machine because Etecs #'s are
not officially available.

3) Ubeam installation went better than expected with getting the beam down the column in record time. Ubeam is being turned over to PLAB officially on 8/31/98 (which was stated in the original contract) and a UTEK engineer will be at its side for at least 2 more years.

4) At least one more Ubeam will ship this year. I thought it was going to be more per the conference call, but I guess I'm wrong. There are currently 3 ubeams, one at PLAB and 2 in NJ. Ubeam sells for 6.8 mil.

5) The whole ubeam installation and performance thus far has gone better than expected.

6) There are several letters of intent for P-gild, which will sell for
4.3 mil so as to "seed" the market. Three P-gild machines are in production, one of which will ship Q1 99.

7) UTEK sees their DD business increasing into the end of Q498 and then they expect weakness in Q199. They see continued weakness in the rest of their product line until mid 1999.

8) Their will be some kind of press release next month re the ubeam at
PLAB mixed with some kind of ongoing joint venture with PLAB. IR said UTEK has plans to make this a really big deal.

9) UTEK has almost 4x as many shareholders since BB recommended the company. The opinion is that these people have strong hands and will weather the storm.

10) BB stays in very close contact with UTEK IR (duh).

Well there it is. Any questions or comments are welcome.
