Here is one example of why it is useful. I received the following from a source that is IMO always very reliable.
"VOD has a habit of gapping open big, usually following a day that it is up sharply. However it is not much of a day trader as it trades in a somewhat narrow range during the day." One would be able to check this out further with the older intraday charts. BTW I wish this info on VOD had be pointed out to me last Monday instead of Thursday. Here is a 5 day on Yahoo
