Talk about HOOKED. I build myself a new machine about every six months, that's how much I love it. Got the cuts on my hands to prove it. I was the kind of kid who always liked to take apart anything electronic, study the innards, and put it back together. Though I loved to work with my hands, I was pushed to be a "professional." Too bad, cause I didn't know what I had missed, although I kept my "jones" fed by becoming the carpenter, electrician, plumber, and all around fix-it man for everyone I knew.
Thankfully, I have been able to buy the motherboards, RAM, floppies, cases (with curled inside edges to avoid cuts), cables, CD Roms, internal Zips, and scanners wholesale, so I indeed save some money. Not much, but some. Truthfully, I'd still do it myself, even if I had to pay retail for everything.
It really is exhilarating, and I now understand the joy people get by seeing something they have put together function as it should.
