MediaCom Unveils Least Cost Routing Product for Telephony ====================================== MediaCom has announced the release of its MegaMiser Intelligent Telephony Router, a least cost telephony and fax routing product. The software runs on a PC attached to a user's LAN to perform LCR for outbound calls. Each time a call is placed, MegaMiser searches its database of national and international carriers to find the lowest rates for that particular call via traditional or IP based networks. The product updates its LCR tables on a monthly basis.

Lucent Teams with MIND CTI to Offer IP Telephony Solution with Integrated Billing ============================== Lucent has announced that its PacketStar Internet Telephony System will support MIND CTI's iPhonEX Internet Telephony billing and call management system. The companies will co-market both post-paid and pre-paid IP telephony solutions to service providers. Post-paid solutions bill users after a call has been completed and pre-paid solutions allow users to buy calling time up front.

Packet Engines to Distribute Netrix's Voice Over Data Equipment ===================== Packet Engines has announced that it will market and sell Netrix's full range of voice over data products. Netrix's array of products include the Network Exchange 2201 for branch/remote offices, the mid-range Network Exchange 2210 which scales up to several thousand ports, and the multi-service Network Exchange 2550 ATM switch which provides central office solutions. The non-exclusive contract covers a term of three years.
Packet Engines has already placed the first order with Netrix for a contract in Washington State.

Ascend to License Open Port's IP Fax Software ==================== Ascend has announced that it will license Open Port's real time and store and forward IP fax software to enable its MAX TNT remote access concentrators to interoperate with Open Port's IP fax network. The companies will co-market the integrated solution to Ascend's service providers. The Open Port Harmony store and forward solution for the MAX TNT is currently available via software upgrade. The real time fax software will be available later this year.
Trials with ISPs and carriers are also planned for later this year.

RightFAX Adds Branch Office Connectivity to its Fax Server ===================== RightFAX has announced the release of its RightFAX Satellite Server. The product is a fax server and e-mail gateway product for branch offices of up to 15 users. It enables the branch offices to leverage the connectivity and resources of the main office's RightFAX Enterprise fax server to send and receive facsimiles or email. RightFAX offers additional add on modules for its enterprise server including the Web Client, the e-mail Gateway, the TeleConnect, the Docs on Demand, the PDF/PScript and the Enhanced OCR.

Tally Systems Develops Management Software for Castelle's Fax Servers ==================== Tally Systems has announced that it has developed a version of its messaging and reporting software for Castelle's fax servers. The software, dubbed Veranda for Castelle, enables fax auditing, tracking and departmental charge-back reporting for both inbound and outbound faxing. It captures log files maintained by the fax server and converts them into a database format to produce the customizable reports.
Veranda for Castelle is currently available. It is priced at US $695 per server for the FaxPress 1500-N and the OfficeConnect Fax Servers. For the FaxPress 3500, the price jumps to US $995 per server. The software is also available for the Veranda Enterprise Messaging Reporter.

Natural MicroSystems Unveils Four Port Fax Board ============ Natural MicroSystems has announced the availability of its NaturalFax/QX fax boards. The four-port fax boards are optimized for PCI based microcomputer platforms. The board utilizes a Texas Instruments' C549 100 MIPS DSP chip, on board call control and voice and fax processing software to enable each port to answer a call, provide IVR, or send and receive a fax.
The board supports the T.30 facsimile protocol for compatibility with group 3 fax machines.
The NaturalFax/QX fax board is priced at $1595. It is expected to be available by October.

SSEI Selects Ericsson to Build Network in China Offering Plethora of IP Services ======================= Ericsson has announced that it has inked an agreement with China based Shandong Sanlian Electronic Information to build an ATM Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) in Jinan, China to serve more than 50,000 users. The order is valued at US $10 million (SEK 82 million).
Ericsson will deploy 13 of its AXD 301 ATM switches in the network to connect 2,000 access nodes over high-speed (622 Mbits/s) fiber. The network will enable an array of services to be offered including LAN-interconnect, video on demand, IP-telephony, Internet access, email and video broadcast.
Installation of the network is scheduled to begin this November. Plans call for the first phase of the network to be completed by December, and the entire network to be operational by next Summer.

The Rayes Group to Use Netrue Products for IP Telephony in China ====================== Rayes Technology Group has announced that it will purchase Netrue's IP telephony equipment to develop China Online, its IP telephony network in China. The group plans to invest $5 million into the development of the network. It will utilize NeTrue's full line of IP telephony equipment (including IP telephony gateways, IP voice/fax messaging gateways, client/server IP fax solutions and gatekeeper and network control applications) to develop the network.

A+Net Teams With Ascend to Trial IP Telephony in Four US Markets ===================== A+Net, a San Diego based ISP, announced that it has partnered with Ascend to offer a trial phone to phone Internet telephony service to its 4,000 subs. The trial will enable users to place calls to any phone in Alexandria, VA, Atlanta, New York or San Diego.
Users of the trial service will be charged one cent per minute for calls. The company has indicated that once the trial service has been debugged, the commercial price per minute should level off at about 5 cents. It will then also be offered to business customers nationwide.

Bell Canada Uses Nortel Equipment to Offer IP Telephony to Businesses ======================== Bell Canada has announced that it is offering a voice/fax over IP (V/FoIP) Enterprise Gateway service to enable medium and large business customers with multiple locations to use existing IP data networks to transmit voice and fax. The service will utilize equipment from Nortel's IPConnect portfolio of VoIP products including a family of gateways with port densities ranging from 24 to 100,000, and gatekeeper solutions.
Bell Canada will install the equipment directly in an existing data network or design and implement a new IP data network based on a customer's specific needs.

Alpha Telecom to Offer Internet Telephony ============== Alpha Telecom has announced that it is planning to offer IP telephony services to both residential and business customers in the UK. It currently has Internet telephony gateways deployed in England for the service. The company has also recently commenced operations in Germany, France and the Netherlands, where it is planning to offer similar IP services.

PhoneXchange to Offer Traditional Telephony With Plans for VoIP ===================== PhoneXchange has announced that it is building a long distance switching network to offer a wide array of wholesale and retail long distance services. The provider plans to initially operate switches in Los Angeles, New York, and Miami. The company has indicated that it plans to enable the network to support communications technologies such as VoIP.

SecurFone and Microwave Designs to Deploy Services in Overseas Markets ========== SecurFone America has announced that it is teaming with Microwave Designs International (MDI) to develop and deploy prepaid communications and Internet telephony based services and systems. The companies plan to initially deploy services in overseas markets.
MDI will also resell the Internet telephony products and services developed by SecurFone's subsidiary, SCIES.
The Centre for EuroTelecomms Announces IP Telephony Seminars in London ========================== The Centre for EuroTelecomms has announced that it will host Marketing and Making Money from IP-TELEPHONY on October 27-28, 1998 at the Hilton on Park Lake in London. The two day event will focus on the profitability of public IP telephony services. The seminar will also offer information on what services to offer, how the market will develop, what the marketing strategies of existing players are and how traditional telcos are responding to the technology.
In conjunction with the event, Delta Three will host a one day workshop dubbed Building an International ITSP. The workshop will be held on October 29, in the same hotel in London.

Spiritec to Host London Workshops on Internet Telephony ========================== Spiritec Internet Solutions has announced that it will host IP Opportunites for ISPs and Telcos on September 23, 1998, and IP Opportunities for Corporates on November 17, 1998. Both events will be held in London. The one day seminars will provide information on how corporations and providers can benefit from IP Telephony. Topics to be addressed include new carrier grade solutions, opportunities presented by global networks and strategic planning of services.
