DX--
on the horns...i would love to say they are going to do great, but i really dont know. i have only been to 3 games in past few years, though i do go to dallas for TX v. OU every october. dont go to the game, but the weekend is a blast. normally by the time the game starts on saturday i am just getting out of bed<G>.
on the technology front...what you talk about really isnt an issue, here is why: 1) this isnt a consumer driven market in that you can't go to best buy and buy a modem. the demand on the consumer and business side will drive DEPLOYMENTS from the ILECs and CLECs. 2) you will get your modem from these people, likely for free...or at least the monthly charge will be hidden in the bill<G>. 3) the LECs will buy interoperable solutions, that are upgradable.
look at it from the side that is really going to drive the technology...the LECs. they get a deployable solution now so that they can satisfy the massive demand that exists, and suck in massive revenues, and then when DMT is really deployable, they get to upgrade cheaply. in most cases the CAP modems will pay for themselves in six months or less. AND, since you have WSTL DSLAMs, you can provision CAP and DMT at the same time, so you can take as long as you want to deploy DMT.
its a win/win for everyone...except WSTLs competitors<G>.
good luck to all, trey
