I suspect it was more a matter of taking what was there and easily available. The odd relation between powerful men and the women they attract is something psychologists could make a great deal of. I won't, except to say that it's something that has gone on for a long time, and will continue to go on. The only thing that's changed is the extent of the prurient fascination it arouses.

I still think that the reaction is for more interesting (and scandalous) than the action. If she was a Chinese spy, I might be curious.
