Linda, modem problems are either ISP's or the modem's.
If you have an ISP that supports the ITU V.90 standards, and your phone connection is decent, no problems. Users can choose any ISP that supports the standards.
There is a rather vitriolic but informative post on this issue: Message 5568481 The US Robotics guys know their modem stuff, no doubt!
If your ISP supports V.90 and the phone line is bad, the ISP will kick you down in speed, and the modem gags. Who makes this modem, I think it's BOCI. In any event, they are gonna sell a lot of modems by year end. Even if the modem isn't very good.
What happens if you try to connect at 34k directly, rather than ratcheting down? I'll try it tonight. Don't know what I'll see.
ON ANOTHER TOPIC-
How do you option people calculate the expected price of options vs. share price and time? I use a wing and a prayer, and I'm looking over the Black-Scholes formulas, maybe to put in a Clarisworks spreadsheet. Then I started thinking, this information has just got to be easier to come up with than rolling your own. Any recommendations?
