Hiram:

As a clarification, the IEEE 802.3ab standards
committee has essentially completed the development of
a standard for gigabit Ethernet over copper. This
implementation will use 4 twisted pairs with rates
of 250Mb/sec each, and will have a range of 100m.
Several companies: LEVL, BRCM, and LU are developing
chips based on this standard, which will probably
become available at some point in 1999.

Best regards,

Bernard Levy
