Cabletron Unveils Attractive ATM BuybackProgram; Offers Customers Up to $300 Per Port in Trade-In Incentives

ROCHESTER, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 24, 1998--Cabletron Systems CS today launched an aggressive buyback program, offering customers up to $300 in discounts for every ATM port that is upgraded to Cabletron's next-generation ATM SmartSwitch before November 30, 1998. Available through Cabletron's authorized Synergy-Plus resellers or its direct sales representatives, customers will receive a $100 to $300 SmartTrade discount for each port that is upgraded to a Cabletron ATM solution. Under the program, resellers will receive a SmartRebate for each Cabletron ATM SmartSwitch sold. Cabletron's "Make the Switch to Smart ATM!" promotion is the third in a series of extensive channel incentive programs introduced to resellers within the last 45 days, demonstrating the company's steadfast channel commitment. Synergy Plus partners are currently taking advantage of promotions for Cabletron's industry-proven SmartSwitch Router solution and its high- performance SmartSTACK workgroup switches. "Cabletron continues to do the right thing by giving its reseller partners the 6 proper tools to sell its solutions," said Rich Brewer, Senior Analyst with IDC. "Its new "Make the Switch to Smart ATM!" program gives the channel a valuable way to introduce leading-edge ATM to its customers." Cabletron's buyback program features its comprehensive suite of ATM solutions launched in June (see 6/1/98 press release). The suite sets a new standard for performance, reliability and scaleability, as well as ease of implementation. Cabletron's suite of ATM solutions is designed to address today's critical business requirements for video conferencing, large file transfers, distance learning, telemedicine and cost savings associated with voice, video and data convergence within a high-speed network. Participants of Cabletron's "Make the Switch to Smart ATM!" buyback program will receive SmartTrade discounts on the following next generation SmartSwitch solutions:

--SmartSwitch 2500 Campus Backbone standalone switch

--SmartSwitch 6500 Campus/Data Center switching chassis

--SmartSwitch 9500 six slot or fourteen slot enterprise and service provider switching chassis

--6A000 - 2.5 Gbps Switch Module for the SmartSwitch 6000

--9A65 -- 4.5 Gbps Switch Module for SmartSwitch 9500 switching chassis

--9A100 - 2.5 Gbps Switch Module for SmartSwitch 9500 switching chassis
