Here's my take on Cisco's products...They make routers and switches, among other things. These products are the "backbone" of the internet...Routers connect larger networks together while switches are used within networks. They direct the flow of information so that it has a means of getting from one place to another.

With internet traffic doubling every three months or so, their products will be in high demand for quite some time. Their biggest competitor is 3Com, I believe, but also compete with Bay Networks (which just merged with Northern Telecom, one of Cisco's biggest competitors in sales to the telephone companies), among others.

Cisco has been the best performing stock listed on the Nasdaq over the last six years, I believe. The management is great, and they are very aggressive and customer driven. Their products are the most successful in the industry, and will likely retain this top spot for quite some time.

It is not likely that Cisco will decline in the switches and routers department any time soon, however the Bay/Nortel merger MAY get them a little nervous (no matter how strong you are, it is never good to see your competition consolodating against you).

Hope this helps.
