Thanks for the background info. I am particularly excited about Ericsson's work in xDSL and "Pair Gain" (not the company - Pairgain). (See my previous post) The followning was taken from Telechoice's xdsl.com news articles. Regards, Mardy.
Ericsson Adds ADSL-lite To Its ANxDSL Multi-service Access Platform FYI
June 10, 1998 -- Ericsson unveiled the addition of splitter-less ADSL to its ANxDSL access platform, ADSL-lite. This version of ADSL is targeted primarily at the residential Internet access market.
With the addition of ADSL-lite, Ericsson's scaleable, distributed ANxDSL offers a full compliment of ADSL products and solutions for a wide range of service offerings and network topologies, including VPNs, Intranet and Internet access, VoIP, Switched Video Broadcast (SVB), interactive video/video on demand, and traditional transport.
ADSL-lite has the attention of both the computer and telecommunications industries. An industry group, the UAWG, was formed earlier this year to accelerate standards through the ITU and encourage deployment worldwide.
Ericsson's new ADSL product is part of the ANxDSL multi-service access system. The ANxDSL is a scaleable, multistage subtended DSLAM that provides cost-effective deployment of ADSL access networks.
ANxDSL supports multiple xDSL drop technologies, e.g. ADSL, DSL.Lite, VDSL and HDSL in the DSLAM. Support for multiple transport protocols, e.g. ATM, IP over ATM and PPP over ATM, enables tailoring to service specific needs. A range of Exchange Terminations for backbone interconnection and an advanced concentration architecture is provided to create a base for xDSL deployments for delivery of high-speed Intranet and Internet applications, VPNs, VoIP and a gradual introduction of digital TV services. |
