As with Clinton, Newt does not have to launch direct attacks. It's more likely that many of the Republican leaders will likely sit back and let the firebrands and the outsiders (such as Bennett and Quayle) lead the attack. Newt is also in a position that he wants to pass binding resolutions for funding the various government branches in the next 8 weeks. If he plays it tough, he will just play into Clinton's hands.
