BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 24, 1998--Siemens is offering a
broad range of competitive solutions for service providers and resellers at the Telecom
Business '98 Conference & Exposition, scheduled for September 1-3 in New York
City. Fred Fromm, president and CEO of Siemens Telecom Networks, will be a
conference keynote speaker at the Telecom Business '98 opening session on Sept. 1 at
the New York Hilton & Towers.

"Not since the 1984 divestiture have business decisions held so much importance for
service providers," said Fromm. "Carriers must offer the right services to the right
audiences and back it up with quality customer service to succeed in today's competitive
marketplace. At Siemens, we can provide consulting services, equipment, systems
integration and marketing assistance. Our aim is to help define and implement total
solutions that meet our customers' business objectives."

Other Siemens speakers include Graham Howard, director of advanced applications for
Siemens Internet Solutions, who will discuss true carrier-grade Voice over Internet
Protocol (VOIP) at the Internet telephony hardware, software and interoperability
session on Sept. 1. On Sept. 2, Ray Shedden, manager of product line management for
Advanced Intelligent Networks, will participate in a TeleCard World workshop on cost
benefit analysis for equipment and outsourcing options. Both workshops will be held in
the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Other Siemens executives will be speaking on
the show floor at the Javits Center as part of the exposition's "Demonstration Theater"
series.

Visitors to the Siemens booth (No. 531) at Telecom Business '98 in the Javits Center
can view displays and audiovisual demonstrations that illustrate how Siemens helps add
value to today's service providers by providing solutions that increase offerings and build
revenues. A range of solutions for local and long-distance switching, access and
network management will be demonstrated at the Siemens exhibit. Highlights include:

Internet Telephony

The InterXpress(tm) family of Internet telephony products provides comprehensive
carrier-grade VOIP solutions, merging the world of the web with the world of traditional
telecommunications. Carriers can expand their market reach by offering subscribers
integrated solutions for voice, fax and other value-added services, anywhere in the
world. Siemens also will preview Xpressions(tm), a unified multimedia messaging system
capable of voice-annotating fax and e-mail messages.

Transport Solutions

Siemens entered the North American transport market in June with the introduction of
TransXpress ALine, a multi-service fiber optic transport system. TransXpress ALine
combines synchronous optical network (SONET) and asynchronous transfer mode
(ATM) technologies on a single platform, allowing an unparalleled degree of efficiency
and control. This local transport system provides today's operators with a superior,
more flexible way to provision, manage and protect their most valuable resource --
bandwidth.

At a live demonstration, Siemens will show how TransXpress ALine is able to allocate
OC-3c bandwidth at sub OC-3c levels to multiple users instead of dedicating the
complete OC-3c bandwidth to one user. This streamlining capability can result in
significant operational cost savings for service providers.

Local and Long Distance Switching Solutions

Siemens' DCO(r) switch is ideal for serving suburban and rural areas. It is an efficient
and economical solution for competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs) seeking to
enter switched, integrated services markets. Using Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN)
features, service providers can offer custom services such as debit card, international
call back and personalized number services.

If higher capacity switching is needed, the Siemens' EWSD(r) switch provides a single
switch platform solution for local and long distance services. The feature-rich EWSD
switch can be deployed as an end office switch, a long distance switch, a combined end
office/access tandem/Personal Communication Service (PCS) switch, or any
combination of desired functions. The EWSD switch is the most widely deployed switch
in the world, with more than 160 million ports in service in more than 100 countries.

AIN Service Creation and Deployment

A Fast Feature Platform(tm) (FFP) system enables premium services to be rapidly
customized and brought to market using AIN technology. With the Siemens'
INventor(r) Service Creation Environment, users can create and simulate new services
and then transfer them to the FFP. The FFP features an interface to the Internet which
allows subscribers to easily control and configure their own leading edge telephone
services.

Fiber and Copper Access Solutions

An interactive end-user application demonstrates the high-speed data access capabilities
of the Siemens XpressLink (r) system. Visitors can see the speed and quality of video
images supported by asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) technology for
applications such as work-at-home, electronic commerce and real-time delivery of
MPEG-encoded video clips.

XpressLink is a service-independent, x-DSL ATM-based access platform that supports
point-to-point solutions and synchronized optical network (SONET) infrastructures.
XpressLink can be expanded to support a broadband passive optical network. Access
to the customer is provided via ADSL, UDSL (universal digital subscriber line) and
VDSL (very high bit rate digital subscriber line) over existing copper infrastructure.

Siemens also offers the FastLink(tm) system, which supports narrowband and
broadband services through a fiber-in-the-loop and copper distribution architecture.
FastLink SONET, optimized to meet the fiber market's access feeder requirements, is a
family of uni-directional path switched ring add/drop multiplexers that can be equipped
with OC-3 or OC-12 optical line interfaces.

Siemens Telecom Networks, headquartered in Boca Raton, Fla., is a leading provider
