Alomex, You make some excellent points. "Sustained" is a key word. The "guy next door" is also a key. Will that person buy Mac if they own a PC already? Tough decision when you already have a boat load of PC software. Will they buy a Mac if their neighbor owns a PC? Kids play at each others homes, they share games. If little Jimmy next door has Starcraft, and you can't get it for a Mac, will your kid want to buy the mac? I believe software availability becomes critical. Yes, there is Mac software equal to PC software on the business side, but in the entertainment area there is a huge imbalance.
Machine availability is also crucial. I live in the midwest. The city and surrounding areas have about a million people living in them. Today, I could not find an iMac, or any Mac in a retail store, if my life depended on it. Literally dozens of PC stores. For areas that don't have a Mac retailer, you have to ask yourself, will people be willing to mail order an iMac or any computer, especially of it's their first one? I think it's a big hurdle to overcome. The 50% that don't own a computer now may not be willing "buy Mac" without close support.
Lots of questions still unanswered about this company as far as I'm concerned. They have stopped the bleeding, but have they turned it around? |
