Apple had the opportunity to be the Microsoft of the industry, but
they wanted to control both hardware and platform. Their hardware was
always too expensive and it was only until recently that they allowed
other to manufacture compatible machines (10 years too late).

On the software end Microsoft has more applications for Macs and Apple
then any other software company. This makes sense since the platform is
superb. With the investment in MS platforms I can't see how Apple is
even capable of making any major inroads. Apple let their opportunity
slip away in the mid eighties.

My feeling is that you can resist only so long before you find yourself
using one of Microsoft's platforms.

Apple let their boat leave port without them and as an investor you
need be confident about their future and everything is pointing south.

As much as many don't like Microsoft everything about them is solid. If
Warren Buffett invested in technology stocks I'm sure that MS would be
one of his major holdings. He loves companys that have a monopoly
control in their market and for MS its their industry.
