I'm pretty short on time this week so I can't go into huge amounts of detail...but here's a few tid-bits.

The networking market is in it's infancy. As RBOC's begin deploying xDSL, cableco.s go after mutliservice nets, the carriers in general look to churn PSTN to IP based nets and as the internet grows and users put more demands on the infrastructure more and more networking equipment will be needed..in the home, in the cable co, in the ISP, in the LEC, and the IXC. Depending on who you talk to and depending on what market you're talking about growth rates are 30%-50%.

Like the PC we're only scratching the surface of network buildout. Japan, the US, and parts of Europe are still just begining. Other parts of the world haven't even started.

Unlike the PC, networks are built on telephony, video, telemetry, as well as PC's all fueling demand for more bandwidth. Interestingly many in the cable industry specifically believe that the target device for internet browsing will be the television which could have an affect on PC sales. At the same time I'm aware that as ISP's and carrier nets build out that they too will need Server platforms. This may or may not make up for expected declines in consumer PC sales. Are DELL's future competitors Sony, Panasonic, JVC???

As for "who wins LU or CSCO"...there is more business out there then either of them can accomodate. Neither "win"...or should I say neither "lose". They both win as will perhaps one or two other vendors. So, I guess the networking market is different than the PC market where the networking market can support an oligopoly.
