That's what Microsoft fears most -- the era of the irrelevant OS.
That's what Java is all about.

So what is the point of JavaOS for Business if the OS is irrelevant?
Anyways, who cares? Its the API standard that matters and who gets
control over it.

Computing to "most people" should be as via an appliance. Consider
that VCR makers have finally given up on trying to get people to set
their VCR clocks and have started setting them automatically from
broadcast time signals and you'll see the level of sophistication
you can assume from "most people."

Have you ever upgraded your VCR in order to keep it working? TV?
Radio? Telephone? The browser client model is
hardly shaping up to be a utility. Its funny how people complain about Office bloat and endless upgrades but don't seem to mind upgrading their browser software on a regular basis. Are you browsing the web with Navigator 1.0? Hmmm...I can hear it already. Upgrade to latest version of the browser and Java runtime please and then you might be able to download and run our applet.
