How is that any different from having to upgrade to the latest Windows software so you can run the latest (bloated) version of Microsoft apps, all just so you can read the latest Word or Excel file from the guy in the cube next to you?

There is actually one difference; you have to pay hundreds of dollars each time you upgrade Windows and Microsoft apps.
