Spread commissions:

2 commissions are involved. 1 for each leg of the spread. A full service broker will most likely give you a discount if you do lots of spreads.

You cover your short with cash.

I hate to advertise a little on here...but I read all the posts on here each night and sometimes I wonder if anyone is making money. I'm batting over 80% on my bear credit spread table the last several months, and September is currently looking like 100% (of course, there are a few weeks left). The results speak for themselves and can be seen by clicking on the links at the bottom of the following page:

I know I charge a lot for this service, and that SI members tend to be somewhat opposed to subscription sites (yet, you paid to be a member of this site)...however, for those of you that aren't so predisposed, take a look...playing the spread game can be very profitable. If you aren't "cleared" by your broker to do spreads, my posts seem to do quite well for put buying as well...for a little info on this see the following from my message board:

There's a ton of info on the web...you owe it to yourself to check it out.

Good luck with your investing, and lets make a little money out there!
